BKLYN Commons is Rightsizing to Meet its Members’ Evolving Needs

The Coronavirus pandemic has forced businesses to adapt to a new normal that was previously unthinkable. That compels many BKLYN Commons members to rethink their business model in the face of shrinking profits. For many of them, that means reducing staff and office size.

As their needs change, BKLYN Commons recently began the process of rightsizing its Bushwick/Bedford-Stuyvesant location to serve its members where they are during the pandemic.

“Many of our members who have downsized their staff told me that they need less office space at this time to weather the economic storm caused by the pandemic,” said Johanne Brierre, BKLYN Commons head of growth. “We’re offering new options to meet their needs.”

One of those options is to relocate to the 4th floor of the four-story 30,000-square-foot building at 7 Marcus Garvey Blvd.

BKLYN Commons modified the 15,000-square-foot expansive floor for exclusive use for coworking, flex-space and private offices. The revamped flat also features spacious meeting rooms equipped with hi-tech conferencing equipment and high-speed Wi-Fi, as well as open desk space. It’s designed to meet all government social distancing protocols.

Members also have the option of choosing a virtual membership.

“The pandemic forced some of our members to close their office and, in some cases, leave New York City altogether. However, many of them still want to connect with the community and utilize the services BKLYN Commons provides,” Brierre explained. “Choosing this option enables them to stay connected until they could return.”

The perks of a virtual membership include a mailing address and a central location to receive packages, access to the many activities and programs BKLYN Commons organizes throughout the year, as well as everything they need to host virtual meetings.

Looking to the future, Brierre said she plans to utilize the rooftop as an outdoor workspace and event space for small social distanced events when the weather warms up.

“Throughout the pandemic, we have continued to gain insight about the needs of our members and to proactively come up with winning strategies that best serve as a resource and hub for the small business community,” she stated.
