For the Flatbush community, the towering building at the intersection of Flatbush and Empire Blvd has always been a structure of public service. From 1925-1960, it greeted Brooklyn Dodger fans enroute to Ebbets Field with aromas of fresh-baked goods as the Bond Bread Company. In 1997, the building was converted to Phat Albert Warehouse, a retail store that provided discount clothing and home goods to the local community. Phat Albert occupied the building until 2016 when the structure was transformed once again.
The historic building formerly known as Bond Bread Factory and Phat Alberts Warehouse is now home to BKLYN Commons, an inclusive coworking and event space serving the diverse small business and start-up community in Central and Northern Brooklyn. Our Flatbush location encompasses over 120,000 square footage and is home to over 300 small businesses and indoor storefronts. With a members-first motto, BKLYN Commons delivers on its mission in providing entrepreneurs and small business owners access to flexible, community-driven work spaces.
In 2016, BKLYN Commons was founded to guide the next generation of entrepreneurs by repurposing family-owned and operated real estate. With accessibility, affordability, and community in mind, the previous home of the historic Bond Bread Factory, located above the neighborhood staple, Phat Alberts Warehouse, was transformed into a community-driven coworking space where small businesses come to thrive.
Now, with locations in Prospect Lefferts Gardens/Flatbush and Bushwick/Bed-Stuy, BKLYN Commons is home to over 300 unique small businesses—run by entrepreneurs, for entrepreneurs.
